David Branch to be Alexander Shlemenko’s opponent for RCC 7
Famous Russian middleweight fighter Alexander Shlemenko (58-13, 1 NC) received a new opponent for RCC 7 that will take place in Yekaterinburg on December 14. In his Instagram Shlemenko announced that his opponent will be former UFC fighter David Branch (22-6). RCC executive director Nikolai Klimenko confirmed the news.
Initially, Shlemenko was supposed to fight PFL middleweight champion Louis Taylor but a few days after the announcement the American said he wouldn’t be able to compete due to “change of plans.” As it turned out later, Taylor didn’t have enough time to fully recover from an injury.
As a result, Shlemenko received a new opponent with even higher profile. 38-year-old North Carolina-native David Branch performed in the UFC, Bellator, and WSOF where he earned middleweight and light heavyweight belts. He defeated Thiago Santos, Yushin Okami, and Vinny Magalhaes. Branch also defeated same Louis Taylor via submission at the WSOF 34 in 2016.
Besides, the fighter had a chance to fight top UFC middleweights Luke Rockhold, Jared Cannonier, and Jack Hermansson. In May David Branch tested positive and was banned to fight in the USA for the next two years. Later he was released from the UFC.
As for Alexander Shlemenko, in this fight he’s going to try to get back to the winning streak after defeat from Chris Honeycutt. Before that Alexander defeated Jonas Billstein and Viscardi Andrade within RCC.
