Georges St-Pierre: “Nick Diaz could have been champion when Woodley was there”
Former UFC champion in two weight divisions Georges St-Pierre (26-2) thinks the guy from Stockton Nick Diaz (26-9, 2 NC) has everything he needs to become a champion.
Those who caught the time when Nick Diaz was the Strikeforce champion have no doubts about how talented this fighter is. Diaz defended his Strikeforce title three times, including the epic bout against Paul Daley that made history of the promotion.
After Nick switched to the UFC, his career went downhill. He had four fights with 1-2, 1 NC record, defeating only B. J. Penn. Diaz hasn’t stepped into the cage after his fight with Anderson Silva in 2015 when he lost by unanimous decision. The bout was later called a no contest because both fighters tested positive.
“I think just it’s sad to see a guy like him waste his best years,” St-Pierre told FanSided. “I think he could have been champion, especially when Woodley was there. Stylistically it would of been a nightmare for a guy like Tyron Woodley.”
According to St-Pierre, who is himself long retired, Diaz may still return to the Octagon.
“He’s one of the best fighters that I fought. Who knows, maybe his best years are to come.”
Georges St-Pierr vs. Nick Diaz fight took place at the UFC 158 in 2013. St-Pierre won by unanimous decision.
