Islam Makhachev reproaches Dan Hooker of turning down fight in Auckland

One of the main winners of the UFC 243 Dan Hooker (19-8) who defeated Al Iaquinta last weekend, is not excited about facing top Russian lightweight Islam Makhachev (18-1).

Makhachev said he’d like to be Hooker’s next opponent but the lightweight from New Zealand thinks the Russian fighter will not be able to sell out in Auckland where he plans to perform next.

“One kid, he called me up, Islam Makhachev, Khabib’s training partner. He says he’ll take the fight. Mate, I said you know if I fight Gaethje, if I fight Poirier, if I fight ‘Cowboy’ in a main event in Auckland, (it would be a) sellout. It’s going to be exciting. No matter what happens, we’re going to go out there and put on a show. Bruv, I’ll be standing outside of Pak ‘N Save trying to give tickets away (against Makhachev). Are you serious?”

Makhachev was quick to respond, reproaching Hooker of trying to sell out by someone else’s name.

“So you wanna sell out your hometown arena with someone’s else name???? LOL Find some better excuse kid,” Makhachev tweeted.

Makhachev has recently defeated Davi Ramos and is now number 15 of the lightweight division. Hooker takes seventh position after his win over Iaquinta.
