Jacare Souza moves up to light heavyweight, faces Jan Blachowicz first
Middleweight veteran Jacare Souza (26-7, 1 NC) has performed at 185 for almost his entire career but it’s time to change the division.
According to the latest information by ESPN, Souza will move up to the light heavyweight with the debut set for November 16. His fight against top Polish opponent Jan Blachowicz (24-8) will headline the UFC event in Sao Paulo.
Former Strikeforce middleweight champion will try to breathe a new life into his career after another loss, this time from Jack Hermansson whom Jacare lost by unanimous decision in a five-round bout. Souza alternates wins and losses for six fights already. He defeated Tim Boetsch, Derek Brunson, and Chris Weidman but lost to Robert Whittaker, Kelvin Gastelum, and Jack Hermansson.
Jan Blachowicz is a former KSW light heavyweight champion. He’s performing in the UFC since 2014 and had 12 fights since that time. He’s currently number five of the official UFC light heavyweight rankings and is one step away from a title shot. He won five of his last six fights, losing only to Thiago Santos. Last time Blachowicz entered the cage against Luke Rockhold whom he knocked out. Will Blachowicz give Souza a warm welcome in 205? We’ll find out in November.
