MMA pros react to Ben Askren’s retirement announcement

Yesterday, in his interview to Ariel Helwani, MMA vet Ben Askren (19-2, 1 NC) announced his decision to hang gloves.

Former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight champion made a decision to finish his career after he heard the news that he should undergo the hip replacement surgery.

Askren’s announcement caused a stormy reaction in MMA community. We suggest you to look at some interesting comments by MMA pros.

B.J. Penn, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion: “Congrats on an incredible career”

Adam Martin, journalist:“Unfortunate Askren didn't arrive in the UFC during his prime, I think he could have been far more successful. Still, his 3 fights in the UFC were very memorable”

Dillon Danis, Bellator welterweight: “You talked the talk and you always made the walk wish you well on your retirement. Our paths will cross soon.”

Grabaka Hitman, journalist: “I'll never understand the people saying the UFC lost the DJ/Askren trade. DJ wanted out, and Askren gave us an entertaining year of fights.”

Marc Raimondijournalist: “The UFC over the last year-plus would not have been the same without Ben Askren, on several levels. In the end, he retires with a 19-2 record with title reigns in both Bellator and ONE Championship. Through it all, he spoke his mind and did it his way.”

Tom Taylorjournalist: “Ben Askren accomplished some amazing things outside the UFC, and made the UFC exponentially more interesting when he finally arrived. Not bad for a boring wrestler.”
