UFC 243 prelims attracted more viewers than Bellator 229
UFC 243 took place at the Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia, last weekend and gathered more than 57,000 people, breaking the UFC’s record.
According to ShowBuzz Daily, preliminary fights were watched by 559,000 people at ESPN2. It may seem a lot but those were actually the lowest figure for the PPV preliminaries since the UFC established a deal with ESPN.
Still, the event competed with the college football and the MLB matches that were broadcast on other channels.
It’s worth noting that Bellator 229 that was also streamed by Paramount Network the same weekend, attracted only 301,000 people. Bellator 229 was headlined by the welterweight fight between Andrey Koreshkov and Lorenz Larkin while the main event of the UFC 243 was middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
