Top UFC featherweight fighter Zabit Magomedsharipov (18-1) thinks he is ready to face the winner of Max Holloway vs. Alexander Volkanovski in a title fight but he is open for other options. Zabit still wants to fight Mexican striker Yair Rodriguez in a spectacular clash of styles that was supposed to take place last year.
The UFC featherweight belt that Max Holloway holds will be on the line in his fight against Alexander Volkanovski that’s going to take place at the UFC 245 in December. According to Zabit’s manager Rizvan Magomedov, his client thinks he deserves the title shot, given his spot in the ranking but he also understands that he may not receive it.
Zabit Magomedsharipov is not going to sit idle waiting for the title fight and is ready to have another fight to maintain his pace.
“Obviously we will wait for the result of the Max Holloway vs Volkanovski competition,” Rizvan Magomedov says. “Let’s see how this fight goes. If we get a chance to go to the post-fight belt competition, of course we will. But if that’s not possible, we’d like to fight Yair Rodriguez. The winner or loser of the Korean Zombie fight with Brian Ortega is also a good option. However, this time there will be a five-round fight and we will show everyone that Zabit is ready for it.”
In his interview to the Fight World Turkey, Magomedsharipov’s manager also said that the rumors about Zabit’s salary for the last fight are false.
“Of course, Zabit earned more than $60,000 in his last fight. The UFC never publish the real numbers and those numbers that are published on other news sites, I have no idea where they’re taking them from. Some fighters’ fees in that news are 4-5 times lower that factual. I’ve never seen real numbers published anywhere.”
Zabit Magomedsharipov had his last fight at the UFC Moscow against Calvin Kattar whom he defeated by unanimous decision. That was Zabit’s sixth win in a row which put him on the fourth spot in the official UFC featherweight ranking.
