Douglas Lima and Gegard Mousasi to fight for vacant Bellator middleweight title
A few days ago, it was announced that Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Lovato vacated his title due to health condition. Today, the promotion announced that welterweight champion Douglas Lima (32-7) and former middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi (46-7-2) will fight for the vacant title at the Bellator 243.
At the moment Lima is on a three-fight win streak. His last fight happened against former UFC fighter Rory Macdonald last October. Lima secured a confident victory by unanimous decision and grabbed the title again.
As for Mousasi, he hasn’t stepped inside of the Octagon since last September when he won the rematch against Lyoto Machida to avenge his loss in 2014. Before that he had Bellator middleweight title but lost it to Lovato by decision.
Bellator 243 will take place at the SAP Center arena in San Jose, California, on May 8.
