Gay porn scandal, Floyd Mayweather contract, and MMA career. Meet Makhmud Muradov

A name of a seemingly run-of-the-mill MMA fighter from Uzbekistan began to increasingly appear in the headlines.

29-year-old Makhmud Muradov performs in the middleweight division and has recently signed a deal with Floyd Mayweather’s Mayweather Promotions. Mayweather told about it in his Instagram in a video with the highlights of the Uzbek fighter. Thanks to Floyd Mayweather’s popularity, about one million people watched Muradov’s knockouts in just a few hours.

“The best MMA fighter in the world!” Mayweather wrote under the video.

So, what do we actually know about Makhmud Muradov? He is 29 years old, he trains in the Ankos MMA gym in Czech Republic, and his professional record is 22-6. Muradov is an explosive and quick fighter that managed to knock out 16 of his opponents and make submit three more.

During his career, Muradov performed mainly in Europe, specifically in Czech Republic. Until last August he was an apatride but he received the Uzbekistani passport on August 4, 2018. The same month he found himself in the thick of the scandal that cost him sponsorship.

The fighter’s sponsors, the BUKA company, broke an agreement with him because of the situation that could harm the image of the brand. The Uzbek department of BBC reported that the reason for the breach with Muradov was the presumption that he allegedly acted in gay porn. However, the fighter denied that and there was no evidence to his involvement in such business. Still, the story remains much unclear.

Muradov is busy performing this year with four fights already under his belt (he won all of them). He had two of the last fights under the Oktagon MMA banner where he knocked out former UFC fighters Alberto Emiliano Pereira and Wendell Oliveira. Muradov is currently on eleven-win streak and there’s a good chance we may see him under the UFC banner soon.
