Chris Weidman: "Adesanya just a tad bit overrated"
While Anderson Silva called Israel Adesanya the future of the middleweight division, Silva’s former rival Chris Weidman considers the Nigerian to be an “overrated” fighter.
Commenting on the results of the fight, the former UFC champion said that he liked the fight, but made it clear that he did not share the enthusiasm for Adesanya.
“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to watch the fights last night. However just watched the Anderson fight this morning. Great fight. Good to see that Anderson still has it! Is he still putting his hands down?” - Weidman tweeted.
“Adesanya just a tad bit overrated,” - he added.
Weidman also expressed regret for the cancellation of the title fight between Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum.
“I’m disappointed. I was really looking forward to the Gastelum/Whittaker fight tonight at UFC 234. Hope you’re alright Rob Whittaker. I feel for you Kelvin Gastelum and all the fans in Australia,” - the former UFC champion wrote.
When asked by one of the fans if he wanted to complete the trilogy with Anderson Silva, Weidman made it clear that he was not interested in this fight.
“Nah,” - the American middleweight replied.
Recall that Chris Weidman’s last fight took place against Brazilian ground game specialist Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza at UFC 230 on November 3rd of 2018. The Brazilian expert sensationally and brutally knocked out Chris Weidman with right-hook to the head in front of Weidman’s home crowd in NYC.
