Fedor Emelianenko signs new contract with Bellator
It looks like the “Last Emperor” is not going to retire and will keep treating us with his performance.
Former PRIDE champion and one of the greatest fighters in MMA history Fedor Emelianenko (38-6, 1 NC) signed a new exclusive contract with Bellator for a few fights. It was announced last night during Bellator 222.
Emelianenko was thinking about retiring after his last Bellator fight that he lost to Ryan Bader by KO 35 seconds into the fight. That was the Bellator heavyweight gran-prix final with the championship belt and $1M at stake. In the quarterfinal of that tournament Fedor knocked out Frank Mir in the first round; then, in the semifinal he faced Chael Sonnen and also won by a first-round KO.
The new contract promises us the announcement of Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight soon. Given the fact that Bellator heavyweight division perked up in the last few years (Cheick Kongo, Javy Ayala, Matt Mitrione, Josh Barnett, and Sergei Kharitonov are only a small part of the roster), we’re in for a treat of some interesting clashes.
Fedor Emelianenko already announced his retirement in 2012. The “Last Emperor” came back three years later and has a record of four wins and two losses since then.
