Gervonta Davis continues KO victory path, knocks out Hugo Ruiz in round 1
One of the most talented featherweight boxers Gervonta Davis returned to the ring today to defend his WBA super featherweight championship title.
As part of a boxing evening in Carson, California, Gervonta Davis met with Mexican boxer Hugo Ruiz, who took the fight on short notice, replacing Abner Mares, who pulled out due to injury 10 days before the fight.
The rising star Gervonta Davis defeated Hugo Ruiz one second before the end of the first round of their scheduled 12-rounds of a bout, at the stake of which was the championship belt of 130 pounds. Davis dropped his opponent to the canvas with a powerful right cross, after which the referee stopped the fight at 2:59 of the first round. Thus, Davis held the first successful defense of the WBA super featherweight title, which he captured in the previous fight, beating Jesus Cuellar by technical knockout in the third round.
Gervonta Davis remains undefeated, adding to his record 21st consecutive victory. It is worth to note that 20 victories out of 21 in total came by way of KO/TKO and 8 out of them came by way of deep knockout.
Official result: Gervonta Davis def. Hugo Ruiz via TKO in round 1, 2:59.
