Johnny Walker replaces injured Ovince St. Preux, takes on Misha Cirkunov at UFC 235
Ovince St. Preux was supposed to meet with Misha Cirkunov at the UFC 235 tournament, but withdrew from the fight due to injury, after which the rising light heavyweight star from Brazil, Johnny Walker, proposed his candidacy for a replacement. His proposal was heard by the leadership of the UFC, so today Walker is in the card of the UFC 235 tournament, which will take place on March 3 in Las Vegas.
Johnny Walker (16-3) made his UFC debut last November at the UFC Fight Night 140 vs. American knockout-artist Khalil Rountree. Walker made a statement scoring a victory in the first round, knocking out cold Rountree via a short elbow from the Thai clinch. This month, Walker returned to the cage with an even more impressive performance. He met with Justin Ledet, whom he knocked out via spinning-backfist in just 15 seconds of the first round.
He will have to fight with the Latvian-Canadian light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov (14-4), who has a record of 5-2 in the UFC. Cirkunov held the last fight on October 2018 at the tournament UFC Fight Night 138. He squared off against Patrick Cummins, whom he beat in the first round with a choke. This victory brought him back to the winning track after experiencing two defeats by knockout to Glover Teixeira and Volkan Oezdemir.
Recall that the UFC 235 tournament will lead the light heavyweight title fight. UFC champion in 205 pounds, ‘Harcord’ project ambassador Jon Jones will defend the title against number 3 ranked light heavyweight Anthony Smith. In the co-main event of the evening, welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will meet with ‘The Nigerian Nightmare‘ Kamaru Usman.
