Rafael dos Anjos and Leon Edwards to headline main event at UFC San Antonio
Intriguing welterweight bout between British prospect Leon Edwards (17-3) and former champion Rafael dos Anjos (29-11) will become the main event of the UFC on ESPN 4 that will take place in San Antonio, Texas, on July 20.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports was the first to announce the news:
“Main event for UFC on ESPN 4 in San Antonio finalized: It will be Rafael dos Anjos vs Leon Edwards, five rounds. UFC wanted Blachowicz-Rockhold to move there, but Rockhold is filming a Ralph Lauren Polo commercial that day which couldn’t be moved.”
Last time dos Anjos entered the cage at the UFC Rochester on May 18 where he gave impressive performance. The former lightweight champion dominantly defeated Kevin Lee by a fourth-round choke. That victory allowed him to come back to the swing after two losses to Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.
Leon Edwards is on a seven-wins streak in a row including victories over Vicente Luque, Donald Cerrone, and Gunnar Nelson whom Edwards defeated by a split decision in his last fight in March. Last time Edwards lost in 2015 to Kamaru Usman who is the current UFC welterweight champion.
