Antonina Shevchenko: "I promise you to knock Roxanne Modafferi out in the first round"
The second tournament in the history of the UFC in Russia takes place already this Saturday. This tournament differs from last year’s tournament in Moscow not only by the other venue but also because for the first time UFC will hold a female fight in Russia.
Participants in this fight are UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko’s sister Antonina Shevchenko (7-0) and finalist of the 26th season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ Roxanne Modafferi (22-15). At an open training session dedicated to the next tournament, Antonina shared her thoughts about the fight and what could bring her victory this weekend.
“This fight means a lot to me,” - says Shevchenko. “We prepared well. My task, my goal, is to rise in the top division. My opponent is number 8 ranked in my weight class, so I need this victory and I’m only aiming for victory.”
Antonina Shevchenko also commented on the prediction of her opponent, who said that she had to finish this fight and that fans shouldn’t exclude the possibility of a knockout in her performance.
“I did not start the predictions for the fight. It was she to start first. Of course, I did not like it, I promised to knock her out in the first round, so we did everything in the training camp for this fight so that I could fulfill my promise.”
Recall that Antonina Shevchenko made her debut in the UFC in November last year, winning a unanimous decision over the Korean athlete Ji Yeon Kim.
