Devin Clark: "I love the fight culture of Russians and the respect they have for a person who chose to be a fighter"
The second historic UFC tournament on Russian land is about to take place very soon. This time the event will be held in one of the most beautiful cities of Russia, Saint Petersburg, with top heavyweights Alistair Overeem and Alexey Oleinik to serve the main event.
Besides the main participants of the event, this tournament is filled with interesting confrontations, one of them is the debut in the organization of the famous Russian light heavyweight Ivan Shtyrkov. ‘Ural Hulk’ Shtyrkov will square off with an experienced American light heavyweight Devin Clark, who kindly agreed to talk with the editors of the Harcord portal and share his emotions about the trip to Russia.
“This will be my first time in Russia and I’m very excited. The last few years it’s been a dream of mine to fight in Russia. I have trained with some Russians and I just love the fight culture and the respect they have for a person who chose to be a fighter. I think it will be a good trip and definitely something to check off of my lifetime to do list.
I would love to stay longer and see the city more but after the fight, I will be eager to get back home to my family. After a long camp that’s all I want to do,” - Clark told Harcord.
At home in the USA, Clark is known not only as an athlete. The fighter has organized his fund to support children with Down syndrome, which serves a very important function in American society. We asked the fighter about the details of this enterprise.
“It all started with my friend Kevin Kroger and his son Camden who has down syndrome. We saw an opportunity to use my platform and help these kids that rarely get treated the right way. Most of it is just spreading awareness and getting rid of the false stigma created by people who are unaware. It’s great to see that now we even have an adaptive MMA program at JacksonWink MMA where kids with disabilities can come and learn mixed martial arts with some of the best athletes in the world. As an athlete, it means the world to me to be able to give back to kids and help them in any way possible.” - Clark explained.
Recall that Clark’s career in the UFC began in 2016, and since then the fighter held six fights there, winning three of them. The last fight with the participation of the athlete took place in November 2018 against the Austrian prospect Aleksandar Rakic. Already at the beginning of the first round, the Austrian won by a technical knockout which motivates Devin Clark to a successful fight in Saint Petersburg this weekend even more.
