Ivan Shtyrkov: "Rizin FF was very upset by me signing a contract with the UFC"
Nearly a month ago Russia’s unstoppable power-house Ivan Shtyrkov with a sum of 15-0-1 signed with the promotion number 1. Now, the day after tomorrow he makes his UFC debut versus self-declared UFC light heavyweight Devin Clark, who is Dana White’s Looking for a fight show discover.
Initially, Ivan Shtyrkov’s UFC debut was expected for this June, however, as soon as the fighter got an opportunity to fight in front of home Russian crowd in Saint Petersburg, he gladly stepped in replacing injured compatriot Abdul-Kerim Edilov.
“About a year ago we negotiated with Bellator, but their division of 93 kg was fully stacked. Anyway, I was not ready for the transition at that time. I know that Rizin was very upset by me signing a contract with the UFC, they had some plans for me.”
“Ural Hulk” Ivan Shtyrkov also gave his thoughts on the upcoming bout versus Devin Clark and as it turned out there are no specific tactics to beat “Brown Bear” Devin Clark.
“He has been performing for a long time in the UFC and feels confident here. We studied his technical arsenal. He has a non-standard fighting style, and the kick can come from any angle and from any distance. I didn’t prepare a special game plan because often, after a missed strike, the plan can fail. I will act on the situation, and we will see what happens,” - says the fighter.
Recall that Ivan Shtyrkov had his last fight in December 2018 as part of the prestigious Russian promotion of RCC. It stands to mention that “Ural Hulk” shared the Octagon versus former UFC veteran Thiago Silva whom the Russian submitted in the first minutes of the first round.
