Khabib Nurmagomedov: "I think that UFC will book an interim title fight between Poirier and Ferguson"
Finally, Nevada State Athletic Commission‘s handed down suspensions related to the UFC 229 post-fight brawl got clear. Khabib Nurmagomedov (27-0) last weekend was fined $500.000 and received a 9-month suspension for the main role on that post-fight action back in October 6ht 2018 in Las Vegas when he jumped out of the cage to attack Conor’s scandalous mate Dillon Danis. With that being said, an undefeated Russian phenom could be back in action on July 6th.
Khabib believes that UFC has already got some plans relating to the most stacked division in the UFC. According to the Russian, UFC is preparing to book an interim title fight between Tony Ferguson and Dustin Poirier. Khabib, who plans to come back on November for the annual Madison Square Garden card, expects to defend his undisputed title against the winner of the interim title championship fight.
“I think that UFC to book an interim title fight. Apparently, it will be between Poirier and Ferguson. Whoever wins will become the interim champion, and then at the end of the year, we will fight for the real belt. I think it is more than possible to happen. However, at the moment I don’t know for sure yet.” - told Khabib to Sportbox.
Recall that the ongoing saga between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson lasts since 2015. The fight was canceled 4 times due to the certain reasons namely injuries. Dustin Poirier, on the other hand, deserves title fight as well and Khabib’s plans of UFC to introduce interim 155-pound belt makes a lot of sense for the fate of lightweight division.
