Khabib Nurmagomedov: "UFC should pursue a different policy, more attention should be paid to our Russiam fighters"
Russia’s undefeated and undisputed UFC lightweight champion and of the most popular MMA stars of the world, Khabib Nurmagomedov, has held today a meeting with fans in the M-1 Global arena in Saint Petersburg. During this today’s big media event, the undefeated Russian superstar and home hero talked with media as well as with ordinary fans.
Media asked Khabib about UFC events in Russia. Surprisingly, but the UFC lightweight champ remained dissatisfied with the current management of UFC in Russia and advised the main UFC bosses to change their management team in Russia.
“It seems to me that after the UFC tournament in Moscow there were all the same people, all the same media that were. Fans watch the UFC, but I know that many people do not even know that UFC runs events in Russia. Now Magomed Mustafaev [UFC lightweight] is fighting with a new guy [meaning UFC newcomer Rafael Fiziev], but unfortunately, no one knows that they are fighting. Or Alistair Overeem with our [Alexey] Oleinik. Why no one makes promo movies about them?
“In the first UFC tournament, there were: Mairbek Taisumov, Rustam Khabilov, Omari Akhmedov. Taisumov had five victories in a row, Khabilov had several wins in the UFC, and they did not even take part in any promotional stuffs. Nikita Krylov and Peter Yan also took part in that event, however, there was a little promotion by the UFC. I think the UFC should pursue a different policy, more attention should be paid to our fighters,” - said Nurmagomedov.
Recall that the main reason for Khabib Nurmagomedov arriving in Saint Petersburg was Islam Makhachev, the UFC lightweight and close mate of Russian champion, who on Saturday night serves the co-main event of UFC Saint Petersburg versus little-known UFC newcomer Arman Tsarukyan.
