TOP FEATHERWEIGHT ALEX VOLKANOVSKI WANTS TO FIGHT MAX HOLLOWAY IN AUSTRALIA, SAME CARD AS ROB WHITTAKER
UFC 237 took place on May 11 in Rio de Janeiro and brought lots of surprises. One of them was a dominant performance of Australian featherweight Alex Volkanovski in his fight against the legend of Brazilian MMA Jose Aldo.
After securing the biggest victory in his career, Volkanovski feels like it’s time to get a coveted title shot and fight the reigning champion Max Holloway. The top prospect hopes the fight can take place in his home country, in the same card with his fellow countryman Rob Whittaker.
“Let’s do it. I’m told they want to have a card in Australia. Whittaker and Israel Adesanya, I would love to be on that card too. Let’s make that happen. That would be a cracker of a card, let’s make it happen,” Volkanovski said.
Volkanovski vs. Aldo fight lasted all three rounds. To fans’ surprise, the basic fighter Alex was confidently overplaying his opponent standing which was surprising indeed, as Aldo was always known for his monstrous punching technique. As a result, the Australian fighter won by unanimous decision.
Alex Volkanovski (20-1) performs in UFC since 2016. He has had six fights, winning all of them. Aside from Aldo, his record list holds victories over such fighters as Chad Mendes and Darren Elkins.
